The Philadelphia Phillies used a top-flight performance from Ron Reed, who is tied for 5th in the NL with a 3.03 ERA, to beat the Miami Marlins, 2-1, in 10 innings. Erskine Mayer picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 5-9. Robb Nen suffered the loss. The win lifted the Philadelphia record to 80-67.

The Phillies nabbed the win, in part because of left fielder Ed Delahanty. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered the game-winning run-scoring single.

"I made some pitches when I had to," said Reed.
