Philadelphia and Pittsburgh duked it out and the Phillies came out victorious.

Philadelphia Phillies starter Pete Alexander found his groove in his team's 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win elevated the Phillies to 78-67.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Smoky Burgess came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Pittsburgh pitcher Bill Landrum, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 5-4.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Burgess said.
