Pirates Win, 4-1, in 12
|
The Philadelphia Phillies got a sterling performance from pitcher Chris Short, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still prevailed, 4-1. Short threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. Pittsburgh is now 81-63, while Philadelphia is 77-67.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Roberto Clemente? The 33-year old right fielder Clemente stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put Pittsburgh up, 3-1. For the game, he was 3 for 6, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Clemente.
