Late Rally Earns Cincinnati 5-4 Win
|
The bat of Pete Rose Sr helped the Cincinnati Reds top the New York Mets, 5-4. Rose Sr was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for Cincinnati. The Reds, at 70-73, inhabit last place in the National League Central Division.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Cincinnati trailing 4-2, Rose Sr jumped on a fastball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Sid Fernandez and hit a 3-run home run to right-center. With one swing, the Reds had a walk-off win.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Rose Sr.
