White Sox Drop 5-1 Decision
|
The 5-1 Cleveland win over Chicago was due in large part to Bobby Avila. The Indians second baseman went 2-3 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner was Bob Feller, who threw 108 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. Cleveland is now 73-70, Chicago 69-73.
With Cleveland leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Avila batted against Chicago pitcher Gary Peters. Avila hit a sinker to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Indians on top, 5-0.
Avila told a Cleveland Citizen reporter that the win made him feel "terrific."
