Red Sox Get Defeated by Blue Jays, 3-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays knocked off the Boston Red Sox, 3-1, in American League action at Fenway Park. Toronto pitcher and Denver, Colorado, native Roy Halladay had an outstanding performance. Halladay, now 16-10, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Duane Ward was called on to finish, recording his 31st save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Tony Fernandez? The Toronto shortstop had a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 2-1. For the game, Fernandez had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Good win for us," said Fernandez. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
Toronto is second in the American League Eastern Division with a record of 75-66.
