Reds Beat Mets, 5-3
|
With right fielder Pete Rose Sr leading the charge, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the New York Mets, 5-3, at Great American Ball Park. Rose Sr, who is tied for 3rd in the NL with a .313 batting average, was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. Rawly Eastwick claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record stands at 2-0. This loss makes it 6 in a row for New York.
The Reds got a big hit from first baseman Joey Votto. In the bottom of the sixth, Votto smacked a 2-run home run off New York pitcher Craig Swan. It was his 23rd home run of the season. Suddenly, the Reds were ahead, 4-3.
Cincinnati manager commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
