Blue Jays Handle Rays, Nab 3-1 Win
|
Toronto Blue Jays starter David Wells pitched well against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, leading his team to a win, 3-1. The winning pitcher was Wells, now 14-9. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. The second-place Blue Jays hiked their record to 73-65.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took Tampa Bay hurler Scott Kazmir deep in the top of the second. His solo home run put the Blue Jays on top, 1-0. In all, Guerrero Jr. had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Wells said.
