Yankees Handle Boston, Snag 7-2 Win
|
The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox, 7-2, in part because of shortstop Frankie Crosetti. Crosetti was 4 for 4 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Yankees. The first-place Yankees are 86-52.
Mickey Mantle had a big 2-run double for the Yankees in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Dutch H Leonard and swatted a double to right. It was his 25th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 3-0.
"They beat us fair and square," Boston skipper said.
