Dodgers Slip Past Padres, 2-1
|
Los Angeles Dodgers starter Fernando Valenzuela pitched his team past the San Diego Padres, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Valenzuela, now 6-8. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. Jonathan Broxton was credited with the save for Los Angeles, his 6th of the season.
Shohei Ohtani delivered a big hit for Los Angeles. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dodgers ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"Fernando's a gamer," said Los Angeles manager . "Glad he's on our side."
With the win, the Dodgers have a record of 68-69.
