|
The Chicago White Sox knocked off the Detroit Tigers, 2-1, in American League action at U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago pitcher and Plains, Texas, native Ed Walsh had an outstanding performance. In 8 innings, Walsh surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Hoyt Wilhelm closed out the game, earning his 32nd save.
In the bottom of the fourth, Chicago first baseman Frank E Thomas had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Detroit hurler Jack Morris, Thomas hit a sacrifice fly. That made the score 2-0, Chicago. For the day, Thomas drove in one run.
