Nationals Skip Past Mariners
|
The Washington Nationals in 11 innings beat the Seattle Mariners, 3-1, at Safeco Field. Starting pitcher Pascual Perez was a major factor, holding his opponents in check all game. The last-place Nationals are now 57-78, the Mariners 75-59.
Though he didn't earn the victory, Perez kept his team in the game until the bullpen took over and the Washington offense came through. Over 8.2 innings, he allowed 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6.
During his postgame press conference, Nationals manager told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
