Drooping Tigers Lose 6th Straight
|
The Detroit Tigers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jim Bunning into a win. Instead, the Chicago White Sox prevailed, 3-2. Bunning threw 7.2 innings allowing 3 runs. With the win, Chicago goes to 68-67, while the Tigers fall to 62-72.
The White Sox beat the Tigers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Magglio Ordonez produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against John Hiller, Ordonez gave his team the lead, 3-2, when he hit a run-scoring single.
"Losing is tough," Detroit manager lamented. "We've got to get out of this rut."
