Saberhagen Leads Kansas City to 1-0 Win
|
Bret Saberhagen never let Minnesota get something going. The Kansas City right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Royals to a 1-0 win. Jeff Montgomery recorded the save for Kansas City, his 39th of the season. The Royals saw their record improve to 68-63.
Saberhagen, a native of Chicago Heights, Illinois, was dealing all game. He kept Minnesota hitters off-balance, while giving the Royals 8 quality innings. Saberhagen threw 98 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5.
"It's always extra special to win at home," said Saberhagen.
