Rangers Beat Royals, 5-4
|
The Texas Rangers faced a tough opponent in Kansas City pitcher Mark Gubicza, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington by a final score of 5-4. Gubicza went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs. Kenny Rogers notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 4-0. Jeff Russell nailed down his 25th save.
The Rangers got a big hit from catcher Ivan Rodriguez. In the bottom of the sixth, Rodriguez smacked a 3-run home run off Kansas City pitcher Mark Gubicza. It was his 6th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Rangers were ahead, 4-3.
Rodriguez said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
Texas is 4th in the American League Western Division with a record of 55-74.
