The San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals, 6-4, at Nationals Park. Leading the charge for San Francisco was center fielder Willie Mays. He slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. The triumph puts San Francisco at 69-61 for the season.

In the top of the seventh, the Giants grabbed the lead when Mays hit his 17th home run of the season. The 3-run home run off John Wetteland made it 6-4, San Francisco.

"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Mays said. "That's how it goes."
