Walter Johnson, who is tied for 5th in the AL with a 2.74 ERA, propelled his team to victory over the Detroit Tigers. The final score was 5-2, Minnesota. Joe Nathan nailed down his 20th save. Minnesota, at 55-74, occupies last place in the American League Central Division.

The Twins got a big at-bat from third baseman Harmon Killebrew. For the game, Killebrew was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 17th home run of the season gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota manager was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
