Chicago got a strong outing from Red Faber as the White Sox defeated the New York Yankees, 4-2, at Yankee Stadium. With the win, Chicago has a record of 65-64. New York falls to 78-50.
Had Luke Appling not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Appling hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the White Sox.
Appling said afterward that "winning, obviously, is the main objective."
