Dodgers Get Better of Padres, 11-5
|
With second baseman Jackie Robinson leading the charge, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres, 11-5, at Dodger Stadium. Robinson, who is tied for 5th in the NL in hits with 145, went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Dazzy Vance got credit for the win, improving to 17-4. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 7.2 innings. The defeat makes San Diego 75-51.
The Dodgers got a big boost from right fielder Babe Herman who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the first inning off Padres hurler Ed Whitson. It was his 31st RBI of the season and put Los Angeles on top, 1-0.
"It never gets old," said Herman. "Winning, that is."
