A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers.

Tampa Bay pitcher Wilson Alvarez did his part in helping his team defeat the Detroit Tigers, 4-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. At 56-70, the Rays are currently 4th in the American League Eastern Division.

Brandon Lowe drove in one run for Tampa Bay. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lowe, who is tied for 9th in the AL in home runs with 23, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Detroit hurler Hal Newhouser, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.

"Wilson had good stuff. When he did get into a compromising count, he made the most of it," said Tampa Bay manager .
