The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3. St. Louis pitcher and Denton, Texas, native Max Lanier led the way. Reliever Al Hrabosky picked up the win. His record improves to 2-4. Rob Dibble, who is tied for 9th in the NL in saves with 24, took the loss. With this game in the books, St. Louis is 63-64, Cincinnati 64-63.

The Cardinals got a clutch hit from third baseman Ken Boyer. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Cardinals.

"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Boyer said.
