Athletics Stick Mets with 3-2 Loss
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Oakland Athletics and the New York Mets, pitcher Rube Waddell was the difference between victory and defeat. The Oakland left-hander earned kudos in the 3-2 Athletics win. Waddell, now 9-10, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The setback makes New York 70-58.
Nap Lajoie went 1 for 3 with a double for Oakland. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lajoie, who is tied for 7th in the AL in doubles with 32, had a clutch at-bat. Facing New York hurler Bob Apodaca, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Athletics a 3-2 lead.
"Nice to keep our winning streak intact," said Waddell.
