Phillies Nip Mariners, 6-5
|
Citizens Bank Park was host to some intense drama.
The Philadelphia Phillies picked up a win at Citizens Bank Park, topping the Seattle Mariners, 6-5. On the mound for Philadelphia was right-hander Pete Alexander. He played a principal role in the triumph. Erskine Mayer picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-9. J J Putz suffered the loss.
Billy Hamilton was the walk-off hero for Philadelphia. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Phillies center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Hamilton said.
Philadelphia is third in the National League Eastern Division with a record of 67-58.
