Indians Down Orioles, 2-1
|
Cleveland starter Corey Kluber kept the Baltimore offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his cutter in leading the Indians to a 2-1 win. In 8 innings, Kluber surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Addie Joss earned his 5th save in 7 chances.
Bobby Avila had a big run-scoring double for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Jim Palmer and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 21st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Indians ahead, 2-0.
"There's a lot of fight left in this team," said Kluber.
The Indians sit in first place in the American League Central Division with a record of 63-59.
