The Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox at Great American Ball Park. The final score was 8-6, in favor of Cincinnati. Johnny Bench led the way, going 2-for-4 for the home team. Noodles Hahn, now 3-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Rob Dibble earned his 22nd save in 25 tries.

Joe L Morgan hit a 2-run home run off Tim Wakefield in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Reds ahead, 8-6. In addition to the homer, Morgan had 1 double, while going 2 for 5.

"We came out aggressive," said Reds manager . "We came out swinging the bats."

The third-place Red Sox dropped to 63-56.
