Dave McNally imposed his will on the Yankees from the get-go. Relying mainly on his curveball, the left-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Baltimore triumph. The winner was McNally. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Stan Bahnsen. Stu Miller earned the save, his 19th.

The Orioles got a big hit from right fielder Frank Robinson. Facing New York pitcher Stan Bahnsen in the bottom of the sixth, Robinson pounded a 2-run home run to right. His 19th home run of the season put the Orioles ahead, 3-0.

"We took home the win," said Robinson. "What's not to like?"

Baltimore is now 53-66, New York 72-48.
