Lopez Helps Braves Defeat Nationals, 16-6
A 5-RBI performance from the 32-year old catcher Javy Lopez helped the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals, 16-6. Greg Maddux, who is tied for 3rd in the NL with a 1.03 WHIP, was the winner. He's now 10-11. The loser was Dennis Martinez. After today's action, Atlanta sits at 63-53, while Washington falls to 47-69.

With Atlanta leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Lopez hit a fastball from Dennis Martinez for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Braves ahead, 8-2.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Lopez told the Atlanta Chronicle. "It's as simple as that."
