Pirates Send San Diego Home with 2-1 Loss
|
The first-place Pittsburgh Pirates took on the San Diego Padres in front of a spirited crowd.
The Pittsburgh Pirates knocked off the San Diego Padres, 2-1, in National League action at PNC Park. Pittsburgh pitcher and Birmingham, Alabama, native Bob Veale had an outstanding performance. Veale got the win, improving to 5-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 1 run.
Paul Waner, who leads the NL in triples with 13, helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.
"Bob was sharp tonight," said Pittsburgh manager .
The first-place Padres now sit at 67-48.
