Cubs Deal Rays 6-3 Setback
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Chicago-Tampa Bay ballgame.
Getting offensive support from Billy Williams, the Chicago Cubs topped the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-3. Williams went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 3 runs for the Cubs. With the win, Chicago has a record of 62-54. Tampa Bay falls to 50-66.
Ron Santo had a big 3-run home run for the Cubs in the bottom of the first inning. With Chicago trailing 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Wilson Alvarez and swatted a home run to right. It was his 9th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 4-2.
Postgame, Cubs manager lauded Williams for his premiere talent. "Billy is an elite player. He's special."
