With Late Score, Yankees Beat Indians

New York registered a win at Yankee Stadium by beating the Cleveland Indians, 3-2. Pitcher Red Ruffing was one reason why the Yankees triumphed. New York reliever Rich Gossage picked up the win, while Addie Joss took the loss for Cleveland. Earning his 34th save for New York was Mariano Rivera.
New York went in front, 3-2, on Mickey Mantle's 24th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Mantle hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Cleveland pitcher Addie Joss visibly perturbed.
"Do what you're good at," said New York manager . "That's all I ask of the team."
The Yankees saw their win-loss record go to 71-45. At the same time, the Indians fell to 59-58.
