Citizens Bank Park featured a tense pitchers' duel.
The New York Mets went home winners at Citizens Bank Park, thanks in large part to starter Jacob deGrom. deGrom stifled the Philadelphia Phillies, enabling New York to grab the 2-1 win. deGrom, now 10-10, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 5, and allowing 1 run. John Franco collected his 9th save.
David Wright took Philadelphia hurler Pete Alexander deep in the top of the fourth. His 2-run home run put the Mets on top, 2-0. In all, Wright had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
In postgame comments to the New York Citizen, Wright said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Mets improved their record to 66-50 by beating Philadelphia.
