The Texas Rangers faced a tough opponent in Chicago pitcher Ed Walsh, but did just enough to pull out the victory at U.S. Cellular Field by a final score of 4-2. Walsh went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner was Francisco Cordero in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Hoyt Wilhelm took the loss. Texas is now 47-67.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ruben Sierra? The 23-year old right fielder Sierra stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Texas up, 3-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.

Sierra told a Texas Today reporter that he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
