In a low-scoring tilt between the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics, Erik Hanson, who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Mariners organization, was the difference-maker. The Seattle right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Kazuhiro Sasaki zipped up his 3rd save. The Athletics, 4-8, continue their poor start to the 2014 campaign.

Alex Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with a double for Seattle. The 24-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Rube Waddell. It was his 7th RBI of the season.

Rodriguez attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
