The Miami Marlins went down to defeat to Johnny Vander Meer and his Cincinnati teammates. The final score was 8-1, in favor of the Reds. Cincinnati goes to 54-57, Miami to 49-63.

Barry Larkin had a big 3-run home run for the Reds in the top of the ninth inning. With Cincinnati leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a changeup from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Carlos Oviedo and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Reds on top, 7-1.

"Losing is easy," said Larkin. "Winning is hard."
