Rockies Suffer 7-6 Road Loss
The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.

The inspired effort of Colorado first baseman Todd Helton was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the Detroit Tigers. Helton was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Max Scherzer earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record is now 3-2.

Detroit went in front, 6-4, on Darrell Evans's 6th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which Evans hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Colorado pitcher Matt Belisle visibly perturbed.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Evans, "and then get after it again."

With the win over Colorado, the Tigers improved to 54-56.
