Cubs Take Tight Tango, 2-1
The Cubs faced a stiff challenge from Los Angeles pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, but persevered to claim a win at Dodger Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Valenzuela went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Sean Marshall earned the save for Chicago, his 26th. The Cubs now have a record of 58-52 with the win over Los Angeles.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Ron Santo to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Santo said afterward that "winning is the goal."
