Detroit Gets 13-Inning, 3-2 Win
In a tight tilt between the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox, Hal Newhouser was the difference-maker. The Detroit left-hander excelled in his team's 3-2 win in 13 innings. Harry Coveleski, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. Detroit occupies third place in the American League Central Division at 51-55.

The Tigers got a clutch hit from pinch hitter George Kell. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Tigers.
