Texas overcame a superior effort from Red Ruffing to beat New York, 3-2, in 10 innings. The New York pitcher threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Reliever Jeff Russell picked up the win. His record improves to 6-4. Mariano Rivera, who leads the AL in saves with 32, took the loss. The Rangers improved their record to 43-63 by beating New York.

The Rangers got a clutch hit from shortstop Corey Seager. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Rangers.

"This win should put a little bounce in our step," said Seager.
