San Francisco Edges Colorado in Extra Innings
|
The San Francisco Giants overcame a good performance by Colorado first baseman Todd Helton to knock off Colorado, 5-4, in 11 innings at AT&T Park. Helton went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. San Francisco reliever Sergio Romo picked up the win to move to 1-0. Matt Belisle suffered the loss. The win takes San Francisco to 6-5.
The Giants got a clutch hit from center fielder Willie Mays. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Giants.
"What a great game, great atmosphere," Mays said.
