The Atlanta Braves rode a solid performance from 28-year-old starting pitcher Johnny Sain to a win, beating the San Diego Padres, 9-2, at Turner Field. Sain, now 12-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The Braves, at 56-47, sit in second place in the National League Eastern Division.
In the bottom of the third, Atlanta right fielder Hank Aaron had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Aaron stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-1, Atlanta. For the game, he was 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
