The Kansas City Royals besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Cleveland left fielder Albert Belle by beating the Indians, 7-3, at Kauffman Stadium. Belle was 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. The win makes Kansas City 54-49.

Early in the game, second baseman Frank White had a bases-clearing triple for Kansas City. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put the Royals on top, 3-0.

"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Kansas City manager . "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
