Reds Throttled by Nationals, 2-1
|
Great American Ball Park hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Washington Nationals managed to get by the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1, at Great American Ball Park. Washington pitcher Steve Rogers set himself apart with his performance. Tyler Clippard recorded his 23rd save for Washington.
Washington used the timely hitting of Gary Carter to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Nationals on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Whenever I help the team," said Carter, "I feel like I earned my paycheck."
The 4th-place Nationals have a record of 44-58.
