Runs were scarce at Kauffman Stadium.

The Kansas City Royals downed the Cleveland Indians, 2-0, at Kauffman Stadium. Stellar pitching by Bret Saberhagen had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the AL in innings pitched with 153.0, handcuffed his opponent all game. Saberhagen, now 7-10, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing no runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kansas City right fielder Jermaine Dye hit a 2-run single to right field. The clutch hit made it 2-0, Royals.

"I'd like to pile on a few more wins before the end of the year," said Saberhagen.

Kansas City is now 53-49, while Cleveland is 53-50.
