Rangers Stumble Versus Yankees, Lose, 7-2
|
The New York Yankees knocked off the Texas Rangers, 7-2, in American League action at Yankee Stadium. New York pitcher and Lafayette, Louisiana, native Ron Guidry had an outstanding performance. In 8 innings, Guidry surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The first-place Yankees have won 5 in a row.
Bill Dickey had a big run-scoring double for the Yankees in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from fireballing right-hander Nolan Ryan and swatted a double to center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 3-1.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Dickey.
