The Seattle Mariners rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Erik Hanson to a win, beating the New York Mets, 5-1, at Safeco Field. The win puts the Mariners at 59-42, while the Mets drop to 55-46.
Ken Griffey Jr cracked a home run off Jacob deGrom in the bottom of the first. His 3-run blast put the Mariners on top, 4-1. In all, Griffey Jr had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Said losing manager : "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
