The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers, 9-4, in part because of designated hitter Babe Ruth. Ruth was 2-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 for the Yankees. The first-place Yankees are now 62-38, the Rangers 40-60.

With New York leading 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Ruth came up to bat against Texas pitcher Kenny Rogers. Ruth hit a slider to right-center for a bases-clearing triple. His 6th triple of the season put the Yankees on top, 9-4.
