Oakland Athletics starter Lefty Grove pitched well against the Houston Astros at O.co Coliseum, leading his team to a win, 4-3. The winning pitcher was Grove, now 10-5. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. Dennis Eckersley collected save number 29.

Al Simmons dealt the Astros a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Oakland leading 2-0, Simmons, who is tied for 6th in the AL with a .303 batting average, hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single.

"Lefty was aggressive right out of the chute," said Oakland manager .
