Tigers Drop Indians, 3-0, with Late Score
|
Detroit Tigers starter Hal Newhouser found his groove in his team's 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians. The win belonged to Max Scherzer in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Corey Kluber took the loss for Cleveland. Willie Hernandez earned the save, his 25th.
Detroit went up, 2-0, on Al Kaline's 5th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Kaline hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Cleveland pitcher Corey Kluber stewing.
Newhouser pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."
The Tigers raised their record to 47-49.
