Braves Use Late Rally to Win
|
The Atlanta Braves, behind a great outing from Warren Spahn defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-1, at Turner Field. Atlanta reliever Craig Kimbrel picked up the win to move to 1-2. Erskine Mayer suffered the loss. Atlanta, at 53-43, occupies third place in the National League Eastern Division.
Atlanta got a clutch hit from Eddie Mathews. The pinch hitter socked a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was game-ender.
"This game had its share of tense moments," Spahn said, postgame.
