Chicago first baseman Frank E Thomas had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Houston Astros, 6-3. Hoyt Wilhelm got credit for the save for Chicago. It was his 20th of the year. The 4th-place White Sox improved to 46-52.

Thomas had an important at-bat with a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. The White Sox went on to win.
